Online Auction Sites

Talk about online auction sites and the very first name that comes to mind is eBay… This is not surprising as it is the largest and longest running online auction site on the Internet. eBay was founded in Pierre Omidyar’s San Jose living room back in September 1995. Since then it has grown into a world wide organization selling millions of items everyday.

Online Auction BusinessIt gave many home based entrepreneurs and small business owners an opportunity to build businesses selling items online to customers around the world. It is claimed that eBay has made more millionaires than any other site on the Internet. However, in recent years many sellers have fallen out of love with eBay citing poor customer services, increased fees and eBay giving preference to large companies as their reasons.

eBay is by no means the only online auction site and others that you might want to look at include CQout, Webstore, eBid, Online Auction and Overstock. There are also specialist sites such as Golfdbidder or Dell Auctions.

There is no shortage of alternatives to eBay. If you type in the words “online auctions” into Google you will get around 25 million results and there must be literally hundreds of online auction sites. However, many of these are quite small and lack either enough items for sale or visitors to make the site truly viable. There are several sites that offer free listings and at that price it can do no harm to try some of them but it is doubtful if you would making many sales using these sites. If you know differently we would love to hear from you.
