Editorial
------------------------------------------------------------
by Dave Bromley.
Welcome to the second edition of the UK Auction Line Newsletter. In this
issue we are going to look at the new price rates that eBay have introduced
as a result of the EU decision that VAT must be paid for online
transactions. EBay have taken the opportunity to make some significant
changes to their pricing structure. We look at those in detail.
Another grey area that I am looking at this month is what happens when you
send something out but it does not arrive at the other end. We will look at
how you can best cover yourself and protect your reputation.
Here at Ezeeweb we have just launched our latest auction program Which is a
single CD ROM program called "The Path to Power Selling on eBay" It
should be of interest to people wishing to build up their eBay business up
to Power Seller level. You will find details on the web site.
No matter in what area you are involved in knowledge and the speedy access
to the information that you need is a pre requisite to success. Therefore I
was very pleased the other day to discover a web site full of really
useful links for anyone who regularly uses eBay. What is more this is a
totally free site run by Antique dealer Jeff savage and it appears very
much a labour of love. We are going to create a link on
www.ukauctiuonline.co.uk but if you want to visit this page of links
before then just go to www.drexelantiques.com/ebayhelp.html. I am sure you
will find it useful.

The EEC and eBay Price Increases
------------------------------------------------------------
Because of a European ruling wef 1st July eBay will be charging VAT on
all of its sellers fees. All eBay sellers who reside or have a permanent
Address in the EU will be charged VAT on fees such as insertion, feature
And final value fees. A full list of all the new fees can be found at
http://pages.ebay.co.uk/vat-landing/pricing/.
The main changes are that eBay have introduced a new pricing level for
products between 0.01 and 99p and the VAT inclusive insertion fee will
be 15p. For items between £1 and £4.99 the fee rises to 20p (up 33%)
£5 to £14.99 from 30p to 35p, £15 to £29.99 rises 15p to 75p and from
£30 to £99.99 by 25p to £1.50.
Then another new level is introduced for items +£100 which now cost £2
per insertion as opposed to the previous maximum of £1.25. The Dutch
auction and Buy It Now maximum fees also rises from £1.25 to £2 (60% up).
Reserve fees are also hiked up with the minimum for items under £14.99
Jumping from 30p to 40p (33%) and for items over £100 the reserve fee is
1% of the reserve, which for the higher valued items, will be a
considerable
increase.
There have also been some big increases in the featured services fees.
The most noticeable being the Homepage Feature which goes from £19.95
to £49.95 an increase of £30. Feature Plus goes from £5 to £9.95 as does
Gallery feature. But we have found a reduction! The cost of having your
title emboldened goes down from £1 to 75p.

Auction O Matic
------------------------------------------------------------
Auction O Matic is a software program which helps you create your own
distinctive listings for eBay or any other online auction.
I have found it very simple to use, you just enter the Information into the
relevant boxes and it is automatically transformed into HTML code which you
can cut and paste into Turbo Lister or which ever listing devise you use.
This is a very new program and unusually for this type of software it comes
with resale rights, and a web site that you can use to sell the program. I
have put a copy of the web site at www.ukauctionline.co.uk/aomatic.html The
price is £21.95 but as a subscriber to the ezine you can receive a copy of
the program on CD ROM for only £15.95. To order at this special price
telephone our credit card order line o 0845 644 1480 (local rate).

Build Your List
------------------------------------------------------------
I have always been under the impression that eBay frowned on sellers
building up an e-mail list using the e-mail addresses of their eBay
customers. However, the other day I went to Paypal and opened the PayPal
Merchant Tools Manual. This is a very informative 28 page manual which can
be downloaded from www.paypal.co.uk..
What surprised me was a section, which discussed using The Paypal History
feature. This is what it says, "Once you've downloaded your history, you
can use the information to gather customer e-mail addresses (for targeted
mailing list). As eBay own Paypal one can only assume that it is now
acceptable to add your eBay customers to your mailing list.
I have always believed that if you can build up a good opt in e-mail list
it is one of the most powerful marketing tools that you can have. Having
sold one item to a customer through eBay with a good e-mail list you can
offer them a whole range of back up products at very little cost.

Where to Buy Products to sell on eBay
------------------------------------------------------------
This month I am going to suggest that the first place to start looking for
products to sell on eBay is your local newsagents. There are two magazines
that you should look out for. They are
a. The Trader
b. The Worlds Fair .
Both contain advertisements and details of companies Who will supply on
wholesale terms.
If you live near Birmingham there are a couple of exhibitions that might be
of interest. There are two gift fairs held at the NEC each year. The Spring
Fair in February is huge and takes up all 20 halls on the site. The Autumn
Fair which this year is being held between 7-10th September is not quite
so large but can still be worth a visit.
Manufacturers, wholesalers and importers will all be at the Fair and if you
are looking for new items to sell on eBay this trade event is worth a
visit. To get tickets you should go to www.autumnfair.com to register for
your tickets.
