"GOODBYE MR LISTER"
eBay have announced that they are discontinuing the Mr Lister listing
software program. With the introduction of Turbo Lister it was only a
matter of time before the earlier program went. I have found Turbo Lister
very useful because I tend to add items through the week and then upload
them at about 7 pm on Thursday evening. That way if I have a 10 day auction
it will not only run over 2 Sunday afternoons, the busiest time for
visitors on eBay but the last few hours of the auction will also coincide
with the busy time. I have had some of my best results timing my auctions
this way and it is worth you considering doing the same. I have noticed
another peak time for visitors to eBay is Wednesday evening.

Since we launched UK Aution Online I have received some great feed back
from customers who have ventured into eBay for the first time. Barbara
Cootes from Warrington tells me she has sold a Fireman's Helmet for £14.
(She would have got more if he had left the fireman it it) and a set of Tea
Trade cards for £52.

The program has also received very good reviews in Money Master, The Mill
Advertiser and The BOSS although Len Tondell thought it would have been
better if I
had actually had practical experience of selling on eBay. I have sent him
details of my feedback and star rating and will see if he corrects the
comment in next month's edition.

This month we are also providing everyone with a free gift. One area that
offers potential
For making money on eBay is celebrity autographs. I have bought the resale
rights to an
EBook call "Getting Celebrity Autographs for Free". I have included it on
our latest CDROM "Path To Power Selling". But I have also put it on to the
web site www.ukauctionline.co.uk and subscribers can download this for free
by using the password APRIL.

BUY A COLLECTION
===========================================================

When I was an antique dealer I always liked it when I could buy a
collection of items rather than individual pieces. The reason for this was
because each item in the collection would cost you considerably less than
they would if bought individually. Also people often only sell a collection
when they really need the money for some other purpose and so will sell at
a lower price for a quick sale. So having acquired a collection of say20
model cars for £100 or £5 each you would hope to sell them through eBay for
an average price of £10 or more. The main points to remember are to check
on eBay to find out the prices that similar objects are selling for and pay
particular attention to the condition of the items in a collection. To
collectors condition is all important.

Another tip I will pass on this month is to keep your eyes open for items
well outside their locality. For instance a book about war time airfields
in Lincolnshire will attract very little interest in a car boot sale in
Cornwall and was sold for 50p but when it went up on eBay it sold to a
collector in Lincolnshire for over £18. So keep your eyes open for these
"regional" bargains.

TWO FOR THE PRICE OF ONE

I find that I make quite a few sales to customers in the USA and I could
not quite understand why Americans should be browsing around eBay.co.uk but
then I made a discovery. If you put something up for sale on eBay.co.uk it
will automatically also go up on eBay.com for free. The only thing that I
would advise is that when you put details of the cost of postage that you
add a short after note to the effect that if the purchaser lives outside
the UK they should contact you to confirm shipping costs BEFORE making a
payment to Paypal . I also point out that for purchasers outside of the UK
I only accept payment by Paypal. Cheques in foreign currencies can incur
heavy bank charges.

Q & A
===========================================================

What is a fair price to charge for postage?

This is always a difficult question. I have seen people put items into
auction for a very low
price but charge a big amount for postage. For instance the other day I
came across a listing
for a book with a bid price of £1 but the postage was £8. Now this put me
off straight away and I did not make a bid whereas if the book price had
been say £7 and the postage £2 I possibly would have.

Some people do this not so much to fool bidders but to cut down on the cost
of listing.
However, I am sure that some people are attempting to fool bidders. How
often do
you look at the postage charges when making a bid?

My belief is that you should charge enough to cover your actual costs of
posting
and packaging. Again a good guide is to look and see what sellers of
similar items
are charging for their postage.

If you really want to save money on listing do not use £5, £15 or £30. If
you drop the
price by 1p to £4.99, £14.99 and £29.99 you will save between 15p and 60p
on your listing fee.

THE PATH TO POWER SELLING ON EBAY
===========================================================

This audio CD is designed to help sellers build up their business to the
point where they become Power Sellers. To achieve this you need to be
turning over sales of at least £650a month on eBay. On this CD after a
short introduction from me you will find transcripts of interviews with 28
Power Sellers including both Jim Wilson and Jim Cockrum. In these
interviews you will discover tricks, techniques and approaches that will
help you build your business. I was amazed to find out that Jim Wilson,
despite his success on eBay still holds down a full time day job as a
paramedic. So you see you don't have to work all hours to be a success on
eBay.

Also on the disc I have included 3 more eBay orientated e Books plus an
interesting book that tells you how you can get product to sell on eBay for
free. To make your listing stand out more there are 10 auction templates
and an HTML editor and on the CD we give a screen capture demonstration to
show you how to use the templates to create a listing. It is a lot easier
than it sounds, believe me.

Most of the eBooks on the CD come with resale rights for you so that if you
wish you can resell them on eBay or elsewhere but just to help I have also
included the Monster eBook Package of 16 further ebooks with resale rights.
Get this CD and you willnot only have plenty of new information but product
to sell as well. But talking of product you will also find the UK Product
directory and a host of other useful links as well.

This CD, which by the way does not come with resale rights, is available to
subscribers for £9.97 post free. You will be the first people to see this
as we do not intend to put it up for sale to the general public for another
couple of weeks. To buy it now go to the link on the home page of the
UKAuctionline.co.uk web site
