Ebay Auction Weekly News

As I reported earlier the “General Lee” car from the Dukes of Hazard TV series was recently listed on eBay and attracted a bid of nearly £10 million dollars. However, it was no surprise to discover that someone hacking into another ebay members site had made this bid. As a result the car is going up for auction again but this time bidders will have to give proof of identity.

Another car attracting some attention on eBay is a Chrysler Grand Voyager once owned by Tony and Cherie Blair. The 1998 vehicle originally cost in the region of £30,000 but is starting off at £3,000 on the auction site. The burgundy car is full of extras such as two TVs, video, CD in player and high tech headphones.

Police has sized a laptop computer sold on ebay after it became known that the computer contained details about children who had been in care in the Southend area between 1999 and 2003. This occurred after the council sold on some old computers to a resale company.

Ebay are getting flack at the moment for allowing items made of ivory to be openly sold through their site even though ivory trading is illegal. There have also been complaints once more about the sale of pop concert tickets at inflated prices, especially those raising money for charity.

We are less than a month away now from this years eBay Live event taking place in Boston, Mass between 14th –16th June. If you are interested in attending tickets are available for $75 if you register before Friday 25th May and $100 after that.

Finally this week hard up soldier Cpl Trevor Coult has put up his Military Cross medal and 3 others that he was awarded for sale on ebay. The Military Cross is the third highest award for bravery after the VC and George Cross. Cpl Coult was awarded his MC following service in Iraq. The military authorities have taken a very dim view of the proposed sale because under Queens Regulations it is illegal for a serving member of the armed forces to sell any medals they have been awarded. The listing has now been removed from eBay
