eBay and phishing

Today is not a good day if you are an eBayer of a nervous disposition. Yet another piece in The
Times of London today highlights the rise in phishing.

They report the culprits are moving their
attention from the banks and credit card providers and going for Amazon and eBay users. Of
course this should not be news to anyone as this has been going on for at least the last 6 months
but there is another alarming trend reported by the newspaper.

It appears that is now possible for hackers to steal a persons bank details by hijacking their home
broadband connection. All that apparently is required if for you to visit the bogus site and they can
capture the information they need. Although there is no evidence that there is actually any actually
doing this at the moment experts believe it is something we should be aware of. One precaution
you can take if you have not done so already is to change the password on your router.

If that was not enough theregister.co.uk have published an article suggesting that conspiracy
theorist maintain there is a gap in eBay’s security defences. They site recent alleged examples
of lapses were auctions have been hijacked by tricksters. To read the article in full visit
